A Little
History
Country Music And Campfire Cuisine
Johnny Nix, host of Campfire Café (the only open fire
cooking show on television),
will be cooking up gourmet meals with major Country music artists
during filming of the seventh season this spring. EMG Productions, in
association with Webster & Associates Public Relations of
Nashville, are currently booking artists to appear in the Lewis and
Clark Expedition Recipe Series.
(PRWEB) February 28, 2005 -- Guest artists will assist Johnny
Nix in the outdoor preparation of authentic recipes from the famous
expedition that will be cooked entirely over the open fire. In keeping
with the outdoor spirit and historical nature of the series, filming
will be conducted at the picturesque Hank Williams Estate, home of
Jett Williams and Keith Adkinson in rural Tennessee. “The
hospitality of Jett and Keith will flavor the recipes better than any
other ingredient we’ll use”, says host Johnny Nix. In addition to
Campfire Café’s uncommon cooking methods, viewers will be further
entertained by music videos from the featured artists in each episode.
“We’re excited to offer viewers and fans a look at their favorite
artists relaxed and having fun cooking over the campfire with Johnny,
while enjoying the breathtaking scenery from Jett’s mountain”,
says executive producer Pamela Alford. As loyal viewers of the program
already know, Campfire Café is known for its unique presentation of
the many different ways to make outdoor cooking enjoyable and
successful. Inspiring viewers to give open fire cooking a try is what
Johnny Nix strives to do in every show with his step-by-step
instruction and entertaining, down home delivery of gourmet recipes.
Country music artists are well known for incorporating basic values
and the simple pleasures of life into their music. Including them on
the show is a natural way to continue efforts to establish open fire
cooking as a recreational activity anyone can enjoy. Recipes from the
historic Lewis & Clark Expedition will help remind us that cooking
is a basic life skill we need to pass on to the next generation. The
combination of Johnny Nix, a little history, talented guest stars,
fresh air and great food will be a winning combination for an
entertaining new season.
Campfire Café airs on PBS and RFD-TV weekly to over 100 million
households. The Lewis and Clark Celebrity series airs Fall 2005.
Season premiere of the Open Hearth series filmed on location at the
Jack Daniel’s Distillery in Lynchburg, TN airs March 1, 2005.

Billy Joe Shaver Boasts Banner Year After Tragedy
- Readies "A Tribute to Billy Joe Shaver' with Guests Robert Earl
Keen, Guy Clark, Joe Ely and More
Shaver to be seen on “60 Minutes II,” just published
his autobiography, has
a documentary DVD, is advising candidate Kinky Friedman, and has
announced an April 8 wedding!
Waco, TX (PRWEB) February 27, 2005 -- What a difference a year
makes! When we announced Billy Joe Shaver’s most recent studio
album, Billy and the Kid (August 2004), it was couched in the context
of tragedy. The legendary Texas singer/songwriter had lost his mother,
wife and son within a single year.
Shaver still feels the hurt, but his life has turned around. On May
17, Compadre Records will release A Tribute to Billy Joe Shaver –
Live, a CD that documents a 65th birthday tribute held in Austin last
August. Guest stars on the album, who paid tribute to Shaver at Austin’s
Paramount Theatre, include (in alphabetical order) Guy Clark,
Diamondback Texas, Joe Ely, The Geezinslaws, Colin Gilmore, Jimmie
Dale Gilmore, Rodney Hayden, Jack Ingram, Robert Earl Keen, Cory
Morrow, Bruce Robison & Kelly Willis, Todd Snider and Dale Watson.
The artists each sing one Shaver or Shaver-inspired song and offer
their spoken testimonials on the occasion of his 65th birthday. Shaver
himself performs four songs (“You Wouldn’t Know Love,” “Try
and Try Again,” “Tramp on Your Street,” and, accompanied by
Diamondback Texas, “Georgia on a Fast Train”). The new album,
however, is just one of the good things that has made Shaver’s life
worth living of late. Others:
• Shaver was taped by Dan Rather for a forthcoming “60 Minutes II”
segment to air in March or April, exact date TBA.
• He announced his engagement to Joanne Gray, whom he will wed on
April 8 in Waco, Texas.
• His autobiography, Honky Tonk Hero, will be published by the
University of Texas Press with a March 1 street date.
• “The Portrait of Billy Joe,” a documentary film DVD by Luciana
Pedraza (wife of actor Robert Duvall) was released last year by
Butchers Run Films.
• Shaver appears as Rev. Shackleton in “The Wendell Baker Story,”
a film directed by Luke Wilson, Owen Wilson and Will Farrell, shot in
2003 in Austin. Shaver’s song "Live Forever" is featured
in the movie.
• Shaver was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in
a November ceremony.
• He has signed on as “spiritual advisor” to the Texas
gubernatorial campaign of longtime friend Kinky Friedman.
• And at age 65, a year that many turn their thoughts to retirement,
Shaver is touring year-round.
A portion of the proceeds from A Tribute to Billy Joe Shaver – Live
will be donated to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. According to
Shaver, “I am so blessed. God is always on time.”
