MICHAEL BALLEW "No Pain" - New 18 Track Texas CD - July European Tour Includes Return to UK's Americana

Austin , Texas based Michael Ballew’s new album, No Pain, continues the strong country commitment established with his previous collection, Rodeo Cool.

The first new album from this singer/songwriter in over three years, No Pain, presents 18 tracks of genuine stone country music, presented in best Texas traditions.

MICHAEL BALLEW   No Pain

The Whiskey’s Fine; No Pain; Every Time I Hold You; Copano Bay; Pick Me Up On Your Way Down; No One Loves Me Like You; Some Kind Of Angel; I’m Leavin’ These Honky Tonks; Cowboy & The Preacher; Loving You; That’s My Boy; Women Love Love; Red-Headed Women; The Back Of My Hand; I’ll Ride The River With You; My Sweet Angel; I Can’t Drive Home; Hard-Headed Woman.

(Soul Of The Heart SH-NP-102)

With all songs written (or co-written) by Ballew – the exception being Harlan Howard’s classic honky-tonker Pick Me Up On Your Way Down, here given a shuffle treatment – this collection finely reveals Michael Ballew’s ability to handle diverse material, albeit all the songs are kept to the best country – or should it be Texan? – traditions. From hard hitting barroom tales like the tempting (Come On In) The Whiskey’s Fine or trying to make the break, I’m Leaving These Honky-Tonks, to finely etched romantic songs that include the gentle Some Kind Of Angel or conjuring up sad memories with Every Time I Hold You, he weaves his skills with equal ease. Then, stretching into wider realms, there’s a feel of the islands with Capano Bay ; a touch of late-night blues with No One Loves Me Like You; a semi-rocker with Red-Headed Woman; a poignant story-song in Cowboy And The Preacher; and a cute, sentimental novelty, That’s My Boy.

Equally impressive are the musicians, an assortment of old friends and road musicians including Don Raby (fiddle), Floyd Domino (keyboards), Don Sowersby (steel guitar) and Dodd Meredith (drums), while Michael Ballew handles the guitar work. The album is co-produced by Meredith and Ballew.

Now released, No Pain precedes Michael Ballew’s latest European tour which kicks off with a return appearance – with his Damn Good Country Band - to the annual Americana Festival in Newark , Notts (UK) on July 8-9. “It’s an event I’m really looking forward to, as the Brits – like the Europeans – really enjoy their country music …. the good, hardcore kind of country music” says Ballew. “We had a ball when we appeared at this event a couple of years ago and I'm sure we will again this time around.”

Following Americana , Ballew and the band undertake am European tour which will include Pau , France (July 12); Disney Paris (15); Rattlesnake Saloon, Munich (16); Schaffarm, Luzern (17); Terresa , Spain (21); French Riviera Festival (23); Delmonhurst, Germany (29); Trucker Festival, Vejle, Denmark (30); and Hamburg (31).

Michael Ballew reflects on No Pain:

“I can say in all honesty… this is truly home grown music from the Heart of Texas , performed with the same musicians I work with night after night.

“It’s so easy in this digital age for musicians to record their own CD.  Good friends sitting in a circle, pouring their hearts out and having a party in the zero pressure atmosphere of my Hill Country home on the shores of Lake LBJ is exactly what I did with this collection of Texas music from me and my old friends.

“No Pain is a compilation of 18 new and old songs I’ve written over the years with the exception of one Honky Tonk standard written by my song writing hero, the late great Harlan Howard.

“The concept for this album is an idea I’ve been kicking around for some years now and I hope you have as much fun listening and dancing around as we had bringing it to you.”
